Taylor started karate at the age of six years old and trained at Fabiano's Karate School, and by the following year he was already winning tournaments, how ever he loved his karate he turned his head towards acting when he was seven years old because his martial arts teacher persuaded him to audition for a part in the burger king advert in Los Angeles. Although that was unsuccessful he told his parents that he wanted to do acting, so Taylor and his family had to travel back and fourth to auditions in Los Angeles, so His mother and Father decided for Taylor's Career to move to Los Angeles.
Since moving to Los Angeles Taylor has got roles on My Wife And Kids- (2001), Summerland-(2004), The Bernie Mac Show-(2001) and The Nick And Jessica Variety Hour-(2004)
Taylor's big break came in 2005 when, at the age of thirteen, Taylor won the role of Shark Boy in the Robert Rodrigues film The Adventure Of Shark boy And Lava girl 3-D (2005). He was in Cheaper By The Dozen 2 and he played Eliot the son of Baker (2005).
Although he wants to continue acting as he is going into an adult, he says he wouldn't mind becoming a scriptwriter and director.
After that big break Taylor had an even bigger break getting the role of Jacob Black in Twilight, he plays the part of Bella's mysterious best friend, but also he is in love with the teenage girl and is trying to win her heart, but Jacob is also the werewolf of Twilight, you see more of Jacob in New Moon the second film of Twilight, there is also a third Twilight film that's out July 9TH called Eclipse, Taylor is in this film too as he plays Bella's werewolf friend Jacob Black still, in Eclipse Bella has to choose between her vampire boyfriend or her best friend who she has started to have stronger feelings for as she loves them both truly and doesn't want to lose any of them.
Taylor likes the band Kings Of Leon's, his favourite actors are DenzilWashington, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, his last name Lautner is German origion, his favourite band is U2, he is good friends with Dakota Fanning.
